Question 3 - BSF

Feedback on presentation:-

  • Faculty Finger design well liked and seen as advantageous
  • Reduction of movement a must in new school
  • Ability to split lunches a must in new school - very important
  • Curriculum Champion staff aggreed that a visit to a BSF school would be a good use of a SLD afternoon - PEW to arrange
  • No bells - music please

The presentation given by LIA and REF allowed our group to find out where we are up to in terms of BSF.

I believe that our new school should include a large vocational area. So pupils that are not destined to be academic and will be out there at 18 doing trades can get catered for and excel. this could be accessed to a number of schools in the local area. Maybe it could be encorporated in a larger technology strand and be on a rota for all year groups. Year 7 boys doing Hair and year 7 girls doing brick laying. Why not?

I really like the finger design. Perhaps the SEN "bungalow" could be incorporated into one of the end fingers, with a small greenhouse and a garden area? (Cream teas a speciality during the Summer months!)
Split lunches appear to be very successful in several schools in the area and would probably limit the amount of general horseplay and other issues that emerge over the lunch break. Staff will no doubt air their views about a shortened lunch hour if this proposal goes forward for consultation! Personally, I like the idea, but lunch time clubs would be affected i.e. they wouldn't happen. However, we would finish earlier in the day...

I think a 'sneaky peek' at Devonshire road Primry may hold anwsers to the small greenhouse and garden question. I think you and Karen would find their environmental garden exciting! If you want to visit - please let me know and I will ask on your behalf.

I think split lunches are looking as if they are the way forward. Do we try them first in our current bulding?? We currently run over each lunch time and musch of the time staff spend on duty is used hurrying kids along. a typical kid can queue for 1/2 hour each lunch time - now thats what I call poor service!

I think the split lunches needs looking at now. Speaking as a parent, and as a governor on behalf of other parents who have contacted me, lunchtimes are of concern. There have been many occasions that children are not getting time to eat lunch properly, if at all. With split lunches there would hopefully be more choice avaiable too, as those last on the rota have a very limited choice at present.

At School United Council meeting somme commented on getting the primary schools involved as it is their future. I did explain that LIA, REF and myself had previously visited schools last year
