Is the current curriculum suitable for all learners?
Are we teaching the existing curriculum to the best of our abilities?
Are we thinking of a content driven curriculum or a skills based curriculum?
Do we as teachers need to have all the answers or could we too independently enquire?
Are we thinking of a world class curriculum for a new building or building a building for a curriculum?
Are we thinking of global dimensions? Fantastic publication from QCA (web address below) describing and explaining in detail the aforementioned, you really need to read this.
www.qca.org.uk/libraryAssets/media/Global_Dimensions_print_friendly.pdf
What have other schools already done using the chance to develop a new curriculum from changes in specific subjects to PLTS and Global Dimensions? (See web address below). The last minute of Kirby Grammar vid is useful.
www.curriculum.qca.org.uk
What are PLTS and how can PLTS be embedded into the curriculum? (See site below - excellent synopsis of PLTS)
www.qca.org.uk/libraryAssets/media/PLTS_framework.pdf
Have we forgotten about Afl? Are we using Afl effectively? Can we embed Afl into the new curriculum? Can we embed Afl into the PLTS and then into the new curriculum?
Are we considering pathways through KS3? Could some children complete SATs by the end of year 8? Would a Special Needs pathway be appropriate or advantageous? Can teachers teach more than one subject? Could we reduce the amount of change overs for children by reducing the number of teachers they see? Should Year 7 be more contained without walking very far when having to change to a different subject.
Are we all going to teach a similar skill at a similar time? Are there going to be links throughout the curriculum(s)??????
Have we considered the developments of the state of the art college facility in the centre of Blackpool being built over the next few years? How can we become involved with our students education by extending the links that PEW has already established beyond Highfield? Science are going to participate in something interesting with Blackpool and Fylde College imminently!!!!

Lots of staff seem to be having the same thoughts, about reduced movement, timetable efficiency plus lots lots more, a good start for the curriculum champions, can we be brave enough to turn the timebtable on its head to make the best advantage to encourage these ideas???????

Some thought provoking comments here Chris! Some really, really great ideas. You've given us a lot to think about!
Personally, (and I run the risk of being shouted down here, but I will stand on my principles!) I would BAN SATs as they serve no useful educational purpose. They delimit the curriculum and prop up the league tables. I would prefer to use any SAT related time to get on with the real business of educating our lovely kids! (Enough of politics!)
The current curriculum is certainly NOT suitable for all learners - especially (you all know what I am going to say...) SEN pupils and lower achievers, who would undoubtedly benefit from an "alternative curriculum".
I feel sure that many members of staff (myself included) would welcome a glossary / explanation of terms and acronyms.

Your wish has been granted Anne SAT's are scrapped, but what will come in their place? Lets hope we can adopt a curriculum that can suit lower achievers and SEN pupils and prepare them for some GCSE/vocational qualifications to give them a sense of achievement.
