In the busy day to day life of Highfield we too often concentrate on today rather than plan tomorrow.
In the past few years the secondary school curriculum has seen major changes and schools have been 'freed up' to try new approaches and new courses.
The 14-19 Reforms, of the past 5 years, are now well embedded into much of what we do at Highfield but the introduction of Specialist Diplomas is now about to take place in Blackpool Schools and this will bring big challenges to our traditional KS4 Curriculum.
The New National Curriculum, accreditation of non-GCSE courses, BSF, early entry to GCSE, Level 3 qualifications at 16, Enterprise, IAG, and increased flexibility in how we plan our school day are all having a big effect on what we can do during the 4600 hours our children spend with us in our classrooms during their secondary education.
Schools throughout the UK are changing traditional practice and finding new and more successful ways of doing things. Sharing good practice and finding out what is working well elsewhere will help us build a vision for Highfield's future for years to come.
The Curriculum Champions Residential will give us time to take stock and time to make some big decisions about the direction we want to take at Highfield Humanities College.
Get the Curriculum right and everything else will follow:
